Karen Simpson

Karen Simpson - Senior Manager Laboratory Services

Karen has over 27 years' experience in the water industry having been engaged in various scientific and leadership roles across AWQC and SA Water spanning laboratory management, research, analytical, method development, consultancy, business performance, strategic and business planning and quality management fields. As Senior Manager Laboratory Services, Karen leads AWQC’s service provision encompassing field and laboratory operations, strategic, quality management, customer services, consultancy and value adding from across its Adelaide, Melbourne and Port Lincoln operations. Focused on driving service excellence and applying innovation to deliver world-class services to benefit AWQC’s wide range of customers and industries across Australia and internationally, Karen is a passionate public health professional, who works in partnership with clients to deliver value and support optimal outcomes for the customers and communities we serve today and in the future.

Lorraine Bulbeck

Lorraine Bulbeck - Manager Customer Service and Growth

Lorraine joined the AWQC in 2008 with over 20 years experience in Pathology laboratories both within the Government and Private Sectors. Her experience was in delivering a service to customers and managing teams to deliver high quality results and services. In her time at the AWQC, Lorraine has had roles in Leading the Field Laboratory Services team and Microbiology Services team. As Manager of Customer and Business Development, Lorraine leads a team that is focused on delivering a high level of customer satisfaction to a wide base of customers within the Water Industry and other Industries across Australia.

Dr Thorsten Mosisch

Dr Thorsten Mosisch - Manager Field and Life Science Services

Since completing his PhD at Griffith University, Brisbane, Thorsten has gained over twenty years experience in water quality monitoring, freshwater ecology, catchment and riparian zone management and consultancies in the water sector. He spent four years managing the Ecosystem Health Monitoring Program at the Healthy Waterways Partnership, South East Queensland, ten years working at major water utilities in water quality advisory roles, including South East Queensland Water Corporation and most recently seven years in the role of Source Water Quality Manager with SA Water in Adelaide.

Thorsten joined the AWQC in February 2014 as Manager Life Sciences with responsibility for the operation of the Bacteriology, Protozoology, Biology and Product Testing Laboratories. He leads the Life Sciences team, a team of dedicated multi-skilled scientists, in providing excellence in customer service delivery with a focus on method development, quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness. As of May 2019 Thorsten’s role expanded to Manager Field and Life Science Services, leading the Life Sciences and the Field Services team. Field Services is a team of highly skilled field technicians providing quality sample collection and field technical services such as calibrations, covering most areas of South Australia.

Thorsten brings with him extensive experience in research, consultancies, the design, implementation and management of water quality monitoring programs and providing professional advice on issues relating to source water quality, catchment management, water quality monitoring, interpretation of water quality data and the implementation of appropriate risk management frameworks.

Adam Williams

Adam Williams - Manager Chemistry

Adam joined the AWQC in 2004 with a background in aquaculture and water quality instrumentation. He has undertaken several roles with in the Field Services Unit and in his position of Quality Coordinator, facilitated in driving the unit conforming to the AS/NZ5667 water sampling standards.

Sophia Dellis

Sophia Dellis - Manager Quality and Systems

Sophia is responsible for managing and improving the AWQC Business Quality Management System ensuring ongoing compliance to ISO 9001 certification and ISO 17025 NATA accreditation, incorporating OHS&W and Environmental Management and all Corporate requirements. She is also responsible for ensuring the maintenance and improvement of Laboratory Services' key business systems to achieve efficiency improvements, meet customer requirements, and support business growth initiatives.

Sophia has over 14 years’ experience working in Quality Assurance. She commenced her career at AWQC working in the Analytical Quality Control Laboratory. She later moved onto environmental chemistry where she focused on chemical analysis and research. She then progressed to working for the wine industry, conducting label integrity audits. For the past six years Sophia has worked in the water utilities industry, implementing and maintaining robust quality management systems in accordance to ISO 9001, AS/NZ 4801, ISO 14001 and compliance to the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. Sophia is a certified Drinking Water Auditor and a Lead Auditor in Quality Management Systems.

As Manager of Quality and Systems at AWQC, Sophia leads a team who are focused on maintaining current accreditation, achieving efficiency improvements and a quality objective of constant improvement.

Mark Harb

Mark Harb - Manager Melbourne Laboratory

Mark joined the AWQC in 2017 with over 20 years’ experience working principally as a Microbiologist in various QC testing laboratories within a range of industries including pharmaceutical, environmental, food, cosmetics and agricultural.

In addition to attaining a BSc (majoring in Microbiology and Genetics) and a Diploma of Management, Mark brings with him extensive experience in a range of scientific test methods, laboratory management, quality management, new method development, validation, innovation, compliance, consultancy and a high level of customer service.

Mark manages the Melbourne operations where he is responsible for the Microbiology, Chemistry, Protozoology and Biology testing laboratories, and leads a team of multi-skilled scientists.
